Solemn Profession of Religious Vows
A Joyful Witness to Lifelong Commitment in the Augustinian Family
On the 20th of November, 2025, the Augustinian community gathered in deep reverence and overflowing joy for the Solemn Profession of Religious Vows of our brothers—a milestone that marks the highest stage of commitment within the Order. The ceremony was held at the Theology House, Makurdi, at exactly 10:00 a.m., transforming the quiet evening into a sacred moment of prayer, celebration, and profound spiritual significance.
Presiding over this blessed occasion was the Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Ikechukwu Kanu, OSA, whose presence as RSVP added honor and depth to the celebration. With his characteristic wisdom and fatherly warmth, he offered reflections that illuminated the meaning of the vows and the sacred responsibility carried by those who profess them. His words encouraged the brothers to embrace their calling with courage, humility, and unwavering trust in God’s grace.
The solemn profession itself is a beautiful and powerful rite. During the ceremony, the brothers publicly declared their lifelong commitment to the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience, thus dedicating their entire lives to the service of God and the Augustinian community. Their vows signify not just a personal promise but a profound union with the Order’s mission—to seek truth through interior reflection, to live in harmony with others, and to embody Christ’s love in the world.
As the brothers lay prostrate during the Litany of the Saints, the chapel was filled with a deep sense of God’s presence, reminding all in attendance that this consecration is sustained by divine grace and the prayers of the Church. The community’s voices rose in harmony, asking God to strengthen and guide these men who have offered themselves fully to His service.
The celebration continued with hymns of thanksgiving, warm embraces, and heartfelt prayers. Friars, friends, and family members rejoiced together, witnessing a moment that not only marks a personal milestone for the newly professed but also brings renewed vitality to the entire Province. Each solemn profession is a sign of hope—hope for the future of the Order, hope for the Church, and hope for the countless lives that will be touched through the ministry of these devoted brothers.
This special day will be remembered as a testament to God’s unwavering call and the generous response of those who choose to follow Christ in the Augustinian way. May the Lord continue to bless our brothers, strengthen their resolve, and fill their journey with peace, wisdom, and the joy that comes from serving God with an undivided heart.
