The biannual sports gathering, held from the 10th to the 15th of April, 2023, at the Augustinian Institute in Markurdi, Benue State, was a vibrant and memorable event that brought together a large number of friars from across the province. The gathering also included all friars in initial formation, creating a rich blend of experience, youthfulness, and shared Augustinian identity.

This special week provided not only an opportunity for recreation and friendly competition but also a unique space for strengthening the bonds of unity and fraternity that lie at the heart of Augustinian life. Through sports, prayer, and communal activities, the friars expressed the joy of living together as one family dedicated to God.

Events Featured at the Gathering

The sports week was marked by several exciting and spiritually meaningful activities:

• Celebration of the Holy Mass
  Each day began with the Holy Mass, grounding the entire event in prayer, gratitude, and God’s presence. The liturgical celebrations served as a reminder that all our activities—whether physical or spiritual—are done to glorify God.

• Football
  One of the major highlights of the week was the football matches, filled with energy, teamwork, and friendly rivalry. The games provided an avenue for exercise, collaboration, and healthy competition, showcasing great talents among the friars.

• Table Tennis
  Table tennis competitions brought a different kind of excitement, marked by speed, focus, and precision. Friars engaged in lively matches that drew enthusiastic spectators and created an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie.

Throughout the entire gathering, the spirit of unity was evident. From shared meals and conversations to cheering on one another during the matches, the event reflected the true meaning of Augustinian community life.
